Ben + Whitney | Lake Wylie Wedding!

From serving with them in youth ministry for several years, to serving with them in helping plant Remedy Church, Ben and Whitney have been wonderful friends of ours for a long time. They saw our own relationship beginning even before we did! Well, two days before their wedding, Whitney called me and asked me to photograph her and her bridesmaids getting ready for the wedding. And she wanted them to be “artsy.” Until this phone call, the only experience I’d ever had with SLR cameras was modeling in front of them. So I had Brian give me a 5-minute tutorial of his Nikon D300 and had him give me his least expensive, lightest lens. As I was snapping away at drastic angles (that’s the only thing I could figure “artsy” meant), I started showing some to Whitney here and there when I saw they were turning out actually quite well. She asked me, then, to follow her around until the wedding and keep taking pictures even during the ceremony. So, I did. And Brian did take a few of the shots during the ceremony as his seat was facing the alter at a better angle than mine at certain times, depending on how the darn people in front of us were leaning their head. I’m sure many other photographers have to work their way up to weddings from smaller gigs, but I had the pressure-filled delight of getting thrown in, head-first, into my first photography experience doing a wedding. And I wouldn’t have had it any other way! (And Whitney will forever take credit for it 🙂
