remembering steven | callie + steven’s maternity session

As many of you know, Brian’s brother, Steven, tragically died very unexpectedly a little over a month ago. During the week following Steven’s passing, we spent a lot of time looking through old photos we’d taken of him as we were tasked with providing photos for his memorial service. As we were looking through so many sessions where Steven made an appearance in our images, we came across these portraits we captured of him with his beautiful wife, Callie, about a month before their son Simon was born. We’d only just discovered we were pregnant with Avonlea one day before taking these photos, and with all of the major life-changes that ensued for us following this session, we never actually got around to posting these photos! But we feel like the world just needs to see them, so we’re posting them now. Gosh, we miss Steven… He was such an amazing soul, redeemed by Christ as was abundantly evident through his life! We hope that posting some of these images every now and again will remind many of us to cherish each moment we are blessed to have with our loved ones. Our tomorrows are never promised…

Please continue to keep our family in your thoughts and prayers, especially Steven’s wife and son, Callie and Simon (1 year old). We praise God for the 25 years Steven’s family was given with him, and we look forward to the day when we’ll see him again.

crystal cove wedding in orange county, ca | adam + laura

I can’t even begin to tell you all what a surreal experience it was to capture this wedding. We’ve photographed weddings for friends before… We’ve even photographed weddings that one of us was IN before… but this one was truly special. Laura and I have been friends since before we were even born! Our parents have been dear friends for decades, and were in each others’ weddings back when Laura and I were just twinkles in their eyes. We’ve grown up together since birth, and have been through it all together: childhood, the awkward teen years, my family’s move to South Carolina… When Laura chose Duke for grad-school, I was there to help her move into her Durham apartment and even picked her up from her last final exam! Laura was one of the first people I called when Brian proposed, and when I found out I was pregnant. When I went into labor with Avonlea, she was on a plane to Charlotte to be there for me no matter what happened. To stand by her side as a bridesmaid on her wedding day (as she did for me) was of course an honor, but to photograph that day as well was a privilege. And on top of that, she gave me the sweet gift of seeing my Avie-girl be a flower-girl in the wedding (her title in the program was affectionately: Darling Flower Princess), and though she of course did not throw a single petal or even stay awake for the ceremony, I loved that Avonlea got to be a part of Laura’s most special day. The wedding took place in the most beautiful spot: Crystal Cove in Orange County, California! It’s a park atop a cliff that overlooks the Pacific ocean. They kept the guest-list intimate and it was an absolute blast to reunite with so many dear souls at the reception, people who played huge parts in my own life growing up. It was hectic being a bridesmaid, a mommy and a photographer, but I honestly can’t imagine having done that day any other way. Of course Brian was there to make sure nothing was missed! It was perfect day and we couldn’t be prouder of the images to show from it. Enjoy some of our favorites from Laura and Adam’s wedding day!
