Yay! Sweet Katherine has made it down the aisle and is now officially a Mrs! And besides the obvious reason of being thrilled for her that she’s finally married to the love of her life, we’re also pretty jazzed to get to show off her fabulous bridal session! Katherine graduated from Winthrop University, so we headed to the campus to capture some gorgeous shots of her bridal look.
Now, Katherine did something pretty risky during her search for the perfect bridal gown- she actually bought it online! Eeeep! But she went about it in the smartest way possible. She’d seen the dress is a magazine and fell in love with it, but couldn’t justify the retail price. When she found it for sale online from a private seller, she proceeded with caution! She bought it from a bride who had purchased the gown hastily, before realizing that the gown exceeded the weight-limit of what she would be allowed to bring as a carry-on on the flight to her destination wedding. The dress had never been worn and had no bad juju 😉 Katherine even skyped with the seller-bride before going through with the sale! The purchase worked out wonderfully and the dress only needed a few minor nips and tucks here and there in order to fit like a glove. And we have to admit, Katherine looks absolutely stunning in it!

If we could only say one thing about Carolyn, we’d have to go with, “This girl must be one of the sweetest, most vibrant women on the planet!” Carolyn is such a fun person; her smile is contagious, and we fell in love with her the moment we met her. She’s an interior designer, and had a novel request for her bridal portraits: she wanted us to take them in the beautiful home of a family-friend, because she loved the home’s decor and had even designed some of it herself- the master bathroom in particular! When we arrived and Carolyn specifically pointed out the bathroom, of course we were surprised… but honestly? How often does a bride ask for photos in a bathroom?! It was a small space so we couldn’t take a whole lot of images in there, but we walked out of that bathroom with one of our most interesting bridal shots ever. The rest of the session was spent in the home’s gorgeous living room and on the stair-case, as the home’s residents scurried back and forth preparing for Carolyn’s bridal shower they were hosting the next day! It was a really fun session, an interesting challenge, and we truly love the images we came away with! Enjoy a few of our favorites from Carolyn’s bridal session!
In the Charlotte, NC area, we usually only see snow about once or twice each year… and even then, it’s only a couple of inches. But every time the forecast calls for snow, we put out a casting-call on our Facebook page for a bride to get dressed up in her dress again for some snowy bridals for our portfolio. Every time we put it out there, we get a few raised-eyebrows and a few texts expressing vague interest, but no takers! It’s understandable… who wants to put on an expensive and most likely sleeveless gown and hang out in the freezing cold for longer than, like, 5 minutes? Well… this winter, Brian’s sister, Colleen, agreed to be on-call, ready and willing to dawn a wedding gown and let us snap some snowy bridal shots of her should we get a really good snow. And as most of you know, we got QUITE the snow this past week! And this time, we were prepared. We’d found a gorgeous long-sleeve vintage wedding dress at a thrift-store about a month ago and snatched it up! It serendipitously fit Colleen perfectly. Once we had the dress, we considered just going to the mountains for the shoot as the weeks droned on with no snow in sight. We began brainstorming how to style the session, and the style and structure of the down led us to a wintery “Snow White” theme… more like Snow White & the Huntsman than the Disney cartoon, of course! This inspired us to track down some jewelry that makes one think, “Mirror Mirror!” and a luxurious fur wrap. We meant to get more together and schedule a firm date to traipse up to the mountains (like some customized stationary and a bouquet), but once it began snowing gorgeously right here in our hometown, we decided to go just for it. I did Colleen’s hair and makeup, and we spent the longest 20-30 minutes of her life take gorgeous Snow-White-inspired bridal images in the middle of a gorgeous snow-flurry, lol! This girl was such a trooper, and we were able to get some breathtaking shots that captured our Snow White Bridal vision beautifully. Enjoy a few of our favorites from our session with Colleen!
