We’re SO excited to share these images from our Woodland Valentines’ styled shoot today, in honor of the fast-approaching February 14th holiday this weekend! This shoot was such a blast to design and execute, from the pinterest-ing, to the DIY-ing, to the actual shooting, we really did have a lot of fun putting our hearts (pun) into these images.

Love is a lot of things: it can be fun, exciting, a rush… but it can also be scary! To set out to find one’s soul-mate is to learn that love’s journey is not always warm and safe. Sometime’s it is wild and unpredictable. Learning how to grow alongside and accept another person for their strengths and faults is an adventure. But it’s an adventure worth embarking on.

When we photographed Geoffrey and Desiree’s actual wedding day back in 2011, none of the four of us had any idea of the transformations that would take over either of our marriages and families. But if there was ever a couple who set an amazing example of what it looks like to embrace life’s challenges and changes with grace and godliness, and grow together beautifully in the midst of it all, it is these two! We’re so thankful to have them in our lives, and that they agrees to be our models for this shoot. Enjoy our favorites from our styled Woodland Valentines’ shoot, and see more info at the bottom of this post for vendor info and credits <3

ProjectLifePhoto_Valentine_0002Per our usual tendencies, our genius idea for a styled Valentines’ themed shoot popped up only a little over 2.5 weeks before Valentines’ Day! It was definitely a labor of love, not only because of the choppy time-table, but also because just about all of the details were DIY-ed by yours-trulies Because we were pulling all of this together so soon before Valentines’ Day, we felt uncomfortable asking a florist to put together a bouquet, boutonnieres, a flower-crown and a centerpiece, or a baker to whip up desserts on such short-notice. So we’re not too embarrassed to claim responsibility for all of the florals on this shoot, because they did turn out decently. We also made and crudely-frosted a few cupcakes ourselves and dipped a few strawberries! We DO, however, hold to our original belief that wedding professionals should always be hired to handle the delicacies of someone’s one and only wedding day!!! Those floral details specifically were no joke to put together. It was super time-consuming and exhausting to make them look the way we wanted, and we’re more than confident that a professional could’ve produced a much higher quality product in much less time, and probably for much less money

We came across this wedding gown at a thrift store a month or so ago and knew we had to snag it! For $14, the simple lines and intricate illusion neckline were absolutely beautiful, making this dress a steal! We just knew we could use it somehow. We were so blessed to have sweet Linsey, one of our very favorite past brides, offer to lend us her beautiful three-tiered cathedral veil! Groom’s attire and all accessories came from all over the place- most of it from our stock-pile of wardrobe, set aside specifically for photo-shoots. The bow-ties, however, we must mention are from The Cordial Churchman, our very favorite haberdashery, right here near us in our very own downtown Rock Hill!

All of the vintage china and table-scape accessories were provided by The Gracious Table! It is truly amazing how much elegance can be added to your wedding-day decor by utilizing real china. The colors and patters can compliment just about any color-scheme… and gosh darn it, it’s just so fancy and pretty!

Over the summer, we did three underwater sessions for our portfolio. When we were thinking about who we could ask to jump in a pool in their wedding attire, Rodney and Amber were some of the first to come to mind! We photographed their wedding back in February, and in getting to know them, came to adore their adventurous and fun-loving personalities. Amber is an actress, and Rodney is a musician in the band Young Drug. Together they are an unstoppable force of personality, charisma and stage-presence! We knew they would be so much fun to shoot underwater, and were thrilled when their response was “YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!” Hahaha. Of course, when they arrived and Amber began getting her makeup done by the incredibly talented Erin of Erin Ashley Makeup, Rodney asked, “So, is it bad if I can’t swim?” He definitely had us going there for a minute, and after his mischievous grin admitted he was joking, he confessed, “I can swim… but I can’t open my eyes underwater!” That one, he actually convinced me of until well into the shoot, when I got a good look at the images and saw his eyes were open in every shot! Hahaha. We were so glad these two were willing to jump in that pool with us and create some seriously beautiful images. Thank you so much, Amber and Rodney! And of course a giant thanks to Erin Ashley Makeup for doing such an amazing and waterproof job on Amber’s makeup for us!ProjectLifePhoto_ARUW0001ProjectLifePhoto_ARUW0002ProjectLifePhoto_ARUW0003ProjectLifePhoto_ARUW0004ProjectLifePhoto_ARUW0005ProjectLifePhoto_ARUW0006ProjectLifePhoto_ARUW0007ProjectLifePhoto_ARUW0008ProjectLifePhoto_ARUW0009ProjectLifePhoto_ARUW0010ProjectLifePhoto_ARUW0011ProjectLifePhoto_ARUW0012

Yay again! More underwater fun from one of several of our underwater portfolio shoots we did over the summer. We have to give a major shout-out to Thomas and Laura for jumping in the pool with us on this one! Laura is actually a very talented wedding-planner who we’ve worked with several times over the last year. As we were brainstorming couples who we thought would be fun to do an underwater shoot with, we knew Laura would be a great person to ask because of her fun-loving personality. And when we met her husband, Thomas, for the first time as Laura was getting her makeup done, we knew we’d made a good choice! Both of their adventurous and outgoing personalities made for a great set of images from their shoot. We’re so glad they were up for the challenge (swimming in evening-wear is no joke, guys), and we’re so thankful for Erin of Erin Ashley Makeup for doing astounding waterproof makeup for us!
