Laura and Ross are two of just the sweetest people there ever were. To be a part of the day they became one was truly an honor! We had never met them before they booked with us, but from our initial meeting we knew we were going to get along great with them. Their engagement session was super fun, because they are super fun people. Laura’s bridals were a delight to capture, because she is genuinely a delight!
Just after their engagement session, we discovered that our baby on the way at the time, sweet Avonlea, had some heart and kidney problems and might need surgery after birth. I vividly remember posting to Facebook about this discovery, very fearful for what was to come. Well Laura is a nurse, and was working at Levine Children’s Hospital at the time. She took the time after seeing my post to message me and let me know that she worked, of all places, on the heart & kidney floor of the hospital, so if our Avie ended up needing surgery after delivery, she would take good care of her! I remember feeling so much comfort from that sweet thought of hers to reach out and let us know that! She and Ross even sent Avonlea an adorable onesie 🙂
We’ve seriously had a wonderful time getting to know them and had an absolute blast capturing this beautiful Winston Salem wedding day. Everything was so beautiful, including the new Mr. & Mrs. Howard! Enjoy a few of our favorites from Ross and Laura’s wedding day!
Andrew and Erica! Oh goodness… the world needs more sweet and fun people like them! Not only do these two adore each other to the moon and back, but they draw out the fun-side in everyone around them. When Erica sent me her wedding-day timeline and we saw how much time she’d allotted for dancing at her reception, we thought “This girl must be over-calculating how long the average crowd of wedding guests can party. No one can dance for that long!” But low and behold- their guests danced (and danced well, might I add) for hours longer than we’ve ever seen a group carry on at a reception! Erica and Andrew knew their crowd, and planned their day accordingly to allow everyone in attendance to simply lay back, relax and celebrate with them for as long as possible! They did a first-look early in the day, and allowed plenty of time to finish all photos before their ceremony (this added tremendously to the amount of time they were able to spend with their guests). They hired Melanie Murphy of By Invitation Only Event Planning, as well as Southern Way Catering, both tried-and-true pillars in the Columbia wedding-vendor community who helped ensure that their day ran smoothly, on-time and that their guests were well-fed! Every heart in attendance was full of joy for the newlyweds as they said “I Do,” and we had an absolute blast capturing every minute. Enjoy a few of our favorites from Andrew and Erica’s wedding in Columbia, SC!

I can’t even begin to tell you all what a surreal experience it was to capture this wedding. We’ve photographed weddings for friends before… We’ve even photographed weddings that one of us was IN before… but this one was truly special. Laura and I have been friends since before we were even born! Our parents have been dear friends for decades, and were in each others’ weddings back when Laura and I were just twinkles in their eyes. We’ve grown up together since birth, and have been through it all together: childhood, the awkward teen years, my family’s move to South Carolina… When Laura chose Duke for grad-school, I was there to help her move into her Durham apartment and even picked her up from her last final exam! Laura was one of the first people I called when Brian proposed, and when I found out I was pregnant. When I went into labor with Avonlea, she was on a plane to Charlotte to be there for me no matter what happened. To stand by her side as a bridesmaid on her wedding day (as she did for me) was of course an honor, but to photograph that day as well was a privilege. And on top of that, she gave me the sweet gift of seeing my Avie-girl be a flower-girl in the wedding (her title in the program was affectionately: Darling Flower Princess), and though she of course did not throw a single petal or even stay awake for the ceremony, I loved that Avonlea got to be a part of Laura’s most special day. The wedding took place in the most beautiful spot: Crystal Cove in Orange County, California! It’s a park atop a cliff that overlooks the Pacific ocean. They kept the guest-list intimate and it was an absolute blast to reunite with so many dear souls at the reception, people who played huge parts in my own life growing up. It was hectic being a bridesmaid, a mommy and a photographer, but I honestly can’t imagine having done that day any other way. Of course Brian was there to make sure nothing was missed! It was perfect day and we couldn’t be prouder of the images to show from it. Enjoy some of our favorites from Laura and Adam’s wedding day!
