I think Geoff and Marissa’s engagements are the perfect example of why it’s important to do an engagement session with your wedding photographer. If you can believe it, these two were actually nervous about looking natural in their images! You wouldn’t suspect, to look at the photos now. I mean, look at these two!
They may have been hesitant at first, but as we walked around the gorgeous Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden in all it’s summer beauty and gave them some simple direction, it became clear that Geoff and Marissa were going to knock these images out of the park! And as soon as the bride and groom to be saw their sneak peeks, they realized we were right all along, all of those times we said “feels weird, looks great!” as we posed them for these images, hehe… And now, they can go into their May 2016 wedding completely confident that they will look fabulous in their wedding images!
We had a great time getting to know them during the session, laughing and settling nerves. And we’ll never complain to have to shoot in the beautiful garden where we said our own vows 6 1/2 years ago. It’s always a treat to shoot at Daniel Stowe!

John and Chelsea’s wedding was an absolute dream… from the actual wedding to the couple themselves, I couldn’t have asked for a dreamier day! These two are not only some of the sweetest people on earth, but their approach to their wedding day made everything run so smoothly. They wanted to do a first look, and guys… I can’t stress this enough… first looks are the way to go, especially when your ceremony and reception are taking place at the same venue! This means that all of your photos can be taken before your ceremony, and your guests won’t be there during your photos, awkwardly trying to sneak in well-meaning hugs that end up distracting the guests of honor. John and Chelsea had a private, joyful first look, knocked out all of their family and bridal party shots quickly, and were able to walk up the aisle at the end of their ceremony with no pending portraits hanging over their heads. We snuck them into the vineyard nearby and snapped a few extra newlywed shots as the guests transitioned to cocktail hour, but other than that, the bride and groom were able to join their guests quickly (which was appreciated by everyone)! Not only did the day flow extremely well, but John and Chelsea and their families were just extremely happy all day long! Every face was beaming, and every heart was full! We love Love LOVE capturing these kinds of days… these kinds of weddings… these people. It refreshes our souls to be around so much genuine joy. I met Erika nearly 10 years ago, our freshman year of college. We only met once, but when Project:Life was recommended to her as she began her search for a wedding photographer, she realized she actually already knew who we were and was even my friend on Facebook! Funny how things come together, sometimes…
Erika wanted her bridal portraits taken at the South Carolina State House, where her now-huband Alan had proposed to her. We actually had to reschedule her session the first time we set a date, because we discovered that our original session date was the day of the ridiculous KKK protest at the SC State House (what a disaster that would have been)! But the weather was lovely on our plan-B date, the sun was shining and Erika was the only person wearing white 😉 She was an absolute natural in front of the camera… her smiles and laughs were adorably picturesque, and she was such a trooper, keeping a constant smile on her face as we braved some serious mosquitos to get some of these shots!
Enjoy a few of our favorites from Erika’s bridal session at the SC State House in Columbia!
