We are¬†so incredibly honored to have been published on the cover of Charlotte Wedding Magazine‘s April-June 2014 issue! CWM’s art director arranged for our lovely cover-bride, Caitlin, to come out from California and dawn her grandmother’s wedding dress again at the Ballantyne Country Club for a special cover-shoot! They had mock-ups of possible cover lay-outs and specific parameters for the shoot, so it was very different from the typical bridal session where variety is important to keep in mind. We spent a lot of time trying to capture Caitlin dappled in glowy sunset light, but at the end of the shoot we grabbed a shot in front of some beautiful greenery that set of the vintage details of her gown so beautifully. Also, I was 8 1/2 months pregnant with Avonlea the day we photographed this session! It was a little unnerving for everyone involved, scheduling this very important shoot just 10 days prior to my due-date ūüėČ The lovely Diane Personett of as well as Kisha Whitney¬†were both on stand-by, just in case my water broke before or during the shoot. We’re so thankful for sweet friends who would be willing to do that! It was still super-fun, and wonderful to see Caitlin, her family, and the ever-so-talented Erin of Erin Ashley Makeup again!

ballantyne country club wedding | tom + caitlin

Tom and Caitlin’s May wedding was an absolutely beautiful one for us to photograph! Not only was this couple beyond photogenic, but Caitlin chose a very specific element of “something old” to incorporate into their day that truly made these images special: she wore her grandmother’s wedding gown- and she looked like Cinderella in it too! This is something we’ve seen only a few times over the last several years of photographing weddings, and honestly we wish we’d see this lost tradition manifest more often! Not only are the clean lines of many vintage styles classic and timeless, but the sentimentality of wearing a gown that’s been in one’s family for generations is truly beautiful. And as you can see from these images, Caitlin pulled off this gown in spades! Another thing that really stood out to us about Tom and Caitlin’s wedding day was how awesome their bridal party was. It’s often (and understandable) that, by the time we get to bridal-party photos after a ceremony, many bridesmaids and groomsmen are ready to be done posing for the camera and are ready for a cocktail! But this group was wonderful to work with because they were willing to cut loose and be silly in a few photos. The couple’s lovely navy-and-blush palette perfectly complimented their reception venue, the Ballantyne Country Club, and after Caitlin changed out of her grandmother’s gown into a reception-dress, the party continued well into the night thanks to wonderful entertainment by Split Second Sound!¬†Enjoy a bunch of our favorites from Tom and Caitlin‚Äôs wedding,¬†and see a list of their vendors at the bottom of the post!

ballantyne country club bride | caitlin

We’re loving¬†sweet Caitlin’s classic bridal images from before her May wedding, taken at the Ballantyne Country Club! Caitlin incorporated a very unique element, the dress itself! Caitlin wore her grandmother’s wedding dress on her big day and wanted elegant bridal images to capture the beautiful and sentimental facets of the gown. The dress was absolutely perfect on her ūüôā She looks like a disney princess in it! We even recreated her grandmother’s bridal portrait pose on the stairs inside Ballantyne’s gorgeous main hall. We also loved Caitlin’s bouquet of blush peonies and anemones with navy centers incorporated her wedding-colors beautifully. Enjoy a few of our favorites from Caitlin’s bridal portraits.
