Oh man. What an adventure! Brian and Karine’s destination wedding in NJ was 1 weekend, 24 combined driving hours (several of those in DC traffic lol), 1 flat tire, 1 second-shooter (my wonderful friend Julia of Amore Vita Photography), and ultimately 3 crazy but fun days of working with one of the sweetest couples on earth! Brian has been a friend of our family for many years. He moved to Louisville, KY to attend Southern Seminary, and met Karine when they were neighbors and both working in ministry. They spent many months getting to know each other as friends, unable to discuss the possibility of dating due to the obligations of Karine’s internship. But the minute her internship was over (literally, the minute), they had a relationship-defining talk and soon after, Brian proposed! We met Karine for the first time here in South Carolina, when Brian brought her to town after their engagement. A few months later, we got to take their rainy-day engagement photos while we were in Louisville 3 weeks before their wedding for Michael and Melissa’s wedding! And in July, I got to capture their sweet, backyard wedding in Karine’s hometown in New Jersey. It was blazing hot, but such a wonderful day regardless. It was beautiful to see how perfectly each of them fit in with the other’s friends and family. It was encouraging to see so many friendly faces in a brand new place. And it was an absolute blast to watch the Charleston Southern crew breaking it down HARD on the dance floor (as they do). We’re so thrilled for these two, and know they’re meant for great things. Enjoy some of our favorites from Brian and Karine’s wedding!
We photographed Sam & Jamie’s engagements on a spring morning, thinking that May at 10am would not be overly-warm. Well, we were wrong! It was hot and uncomfortably muggy, so we kept the session nice and short but came away with some truly great shots of Jamie and Sam! Sam let us know that he not the biggest fan of posing for the camera, but as I’m sure you can tell from these photos, he is a pretty serious fan of Jamie 😉 So much so, that he moved from their hometown of Charleston to Rock Hill while Jamie attended Winthrop, just to be near her! With his adoration for his future bride and his easy ability to have/ make fun in any situation, we all had a great time capturing these images! He kept Jamie (and us) laughing throughout the whole shoot- I’m sure their home will be filled with that laughter for decades and decades to come… Enjoy a few of our favorites from Sam and Jamie’s engagement session at Glencarin Gardens!
I can’t even begin to tell you all what a surreal experience it was to capture this wedding. We’ve photographed weddings for friends before… We’ve even photographed weddings that one of us was IN before… but this one was truly special. Laura and I have been friends since before we were even born! Our parents have been dear friends for decades, and were in each others’ weddings back when Laura and I were just twinkles in their eyes. We’ve grown up together since birth, and have been through it all together: childhood, the awkward teen years, my family’s move to South Carolina… When Laura chose Duke for grad-school, I was there to help her move into her Durham apartment and even picked her up from her last final exam! Laura was one of the first people I called when Brian proposed, and when I found out I was pregnant. When I went into labor with Avonlea, she was on a plane to Charlotte to be there for me no matter what happened. To stand by her side as a bridesmaid on her wedding day (as she did for me) was of course an honor, but to photograph that day as well was a privilege. And on top of that, she gave me the sweet gift of seeing my Avie-girl be a flower-girl in the wedding (her title in the program was affectionately: Darling Flower Princess), and though she of course did not throw a single petal or even stay awake for the ceremony, I loved that Avonlea got to be a part of Laura’s most special day. The wedding took place in the most beautiful spot: Crystal Cove in Orange County, California! It’s a park atop a cliff that overlooks the Pacific ocean. They kept the guest-list intimate and it was an absolute blast to reunite with so many dear souls at the reception, people who played huge parts in my own life growing up. It was hectic being a bridesmaid, a mommy and a photographer, but I honestly can’t imagine having done that day any other way. Of course Brian was there to make sure nothing was missed! It was perfect day and we couldn’t be prouder of the images to show from it. Enjoy some of our favorites from Laura and Adam’s wedding day!
