This shoot was quite a feat of accomplishment! I began planning this styled shoot in January of 2016, and planned to shoot it in February of 2016. I lined up models (former wedding clients, Joel + Kayla Bowen), and vendors and began collecting details for a late Feb. shoot at Fenland Christmas Tree Farm when our daughter, Avonlea, had to be rushed to Levine Children’s Hospital the week before we planned to shoot! She ended up staying at Levine for over a week, so we postponed the shoot and it was a good thing too, because I ended up going into labor 4 weeks early with our little Violet just 3 days after Avonlea came home from Levine! Finding an alternative date proved difficult, and the shoot kept getting pushed back and back until September! By the time the date was finalized, a couple of the vendors who had been willing to participate originally were unavailable. New Creations Flowers stepped in at the very last minute the week of the final shoot-date with gorgeous flowers! Velo Creative overnighted stationary, and final pieces of wardrobe and decor were pieced together just days before the shoot. But it all came together beautifully! We couldn’t have asked for a better outcome and we were absolutely thrilled when the shoot was published on Borrowed & Blue, a national wedding style blog, as well as Bustl’d, a wedding blog local to the Charlotte area!
We met Joel and Kayla at our church while they were dating. Once they got engaged and asked us to capture their engagement images and their wedding, we thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them and never have we seen a bride and groom more relaxed on their wedding day! Their wedding took place on a Sunday, and we just had to giggle that Joel and Kayla actually came to church together that morning before parting ways to begin getting ready for their ceremony 😉 They did a first-look to spend some intimate, quality time just the two of them before their ceremony and we were able to take all of their posed photos before guests began arriving! As Joel and Kayla blissfully exited their wedding ceremony, we headed back outside the barn for a few sunset shots and then the newlyweds were able to surprise their guests and enter their reception only about 15 minutes after the end of their ceremony! They kept their reception light and fun with a delicious gourmet dessert buffet and square-dancing. And throughout the whole event, Joel, Kayla and their families and friends seemed truly overjoyed with the occasion and we genuinely enjoyed capturing their day for them! Enjoy a bunch of our favorites from Joel & Kayla’s wedding, and see a list of their vendors at the bottom of the post!

When Joel first approached us about the possibility of photographing his wedding, we were bummed because we were already booked on their date! We were super excited when they told us they moved their date forward by one day, because it meant we were available! We have just had a lovely time getting to know these two; they are just incredibly sweet people and evidently love each other and the Lord a whole lot! Their Dairy Barn wedding is set for June of 2013, so we headed to their venue and took their engagements on the beautiful surrounding property of the Greenway. We loved their “fancy in a field” idea for their engagements, and can’t wait to see what creative things they do with their wedding : ) Enjoy a few of our favorites from Joel & Kayla’s engagement session!
