THE IVY PLACE BRIDAL PORTRAITS | CYNTHIA

Sweet Cynthia! I’m beyond thrilled by these bridal portraits we captured of her at The Ivy Place about 6 weeks before her wedding day. She was an absolute vision in that gown, and the hair, makeup by Erin Ashley, flowers and jewelry all complimented her natural beauty perfectly! We had to reschedule this session once due to rain, and on then on our plan-B day, literally on our way to the venue, even though skies were bright and sunny, we saw raindrops on our windshield! I was so worried we’d be rained out again… It poured for about 5 minutes while Cynthia donned her dress, and we had to wait patiently for a few minutes but the rain cleared up quickly and we stayed nice in dry in some lovely sun for the rest of the session! It paid off, too… because this bridal was worth capturing! Check out a few of our favorites of Cynthia, below!

the ivy place wedding | darko + kailagh

Oh boy… this blog-post has been an emotional one for us. You see, Kailagh is Brian’s darling sister. They are 2 of 6 children in their family (4 boys, 2 girls), and Kailagh was the fifth of the six kids to marry. And although this day was truly one of the loveliest that the Powell family will ever have to look back on, for Brian and I, it was somewhat difficult to work through on the post-production end and now blog. It was a day full of family and dancing and wedded bliss… a time before Brian and Kailagh’s brother, Steven passed away… a time before we knew their father, Joe, was sick. This was the last day our whole family will have ever been together. It is bitter-sweet to reflect upon. It stopped us dead in our little blogging-tracks for awhile, and since it didn’t feel at all right to skip, we’ve sort of been stalled on the blogging front for quite some time. But we decided finally that it’s beyond time to let the world in on one of the most happy days in our family history, so here we go!

Kailagh and Darko met at Erskine College, and dated for 2 years before getting engaged the summer before their senior year. Darko was an international student from Montenegro, on a basketball scholarship, and Kailagh would work all year long to save up enough to fly to Montenegro during the summers to visit Darko and his wonderful family. After Darko had popped the question during one of those romantic, European summers, the two decided they wanted to marry there in Montenegro, and our family planned for the wedding to take place there on June 28, 2014… UNTIL… Kailagh and Darko discovered just a few months prior to their wedding-date that if they got married in Montenegro before Darko became a legal U.S. citizen, he would not be allowed back into the country! Not wanting to postpone their marriage indefinitely and with only 3 months until their anticipated wedding date, Kailagh and Darko were sad to have to change plans and marry here in the U.S. but decided to make the most of it! Luckily, they had a pretty convenient resource for local wedding vendors (ahem… Kailagh’s brother and sister-in-law, a.k.a. US!)

They chose The Ivy Place as their dream-venue for their big day! This place is so ridiculously lovely, and was the perfect setting for Kailagh’s dreamy peach vision. They kept their guest-list small and intimate, only family (which, admittedly, is quite large on Kailagh’s side) and long-time family friends! They selected stunning decor from Ribald Farms and The Gracious Table for their elegant evening wedding. All of Kailagh’s siblings had a role in the wedding: the ceremony was officiated (hilariously) by the eldest Powell brother, Matt. Kevin hosted the rehearsal dinner at his home, and Steven and his wife Callie sang and performed all of the music for the ceremony. Colleen was the matron of honor and Kailagh’s only attendant (something I remember Kailagh always knowing she would want since she was in high school). And of course, Brian and I photographed the day as we had time in between being parents of a newborn and family-members of the bride! (Oh, and somehow I was also Kailagh’s hair-dresser. I am NOT a professional or even novice hair-stylist by any means, so no judging 😉 I have no idea why Kailagh has the faith in me that she does, but thankfully, by the grace of God, it turned out quite lovely.)

I cannot forget to thank Brittany of Discover Love Studios for second-shooting with us that day! She is a former Project:Life bride, a sweet friend, and a talented professional photographer. We do not know what we would’ve done without her that day, with so much more going on for us than on a normal wedding day 😉 She’s awesome! Thank you, Brittany!

Hope you all enjoy a few of our favorites from Kailagh and Darko’s beautiful wedding day!

Steven & Callie were playing/ singing “Home” as the ceremony- exit song, but they were so good that none of the guests were leaving because they wanted to keep watching and listening. Steven stopped singing and politely recommended that everyone go to cocktail hour and everyone erupted with laughter. He certainly had a way about him 🙂

Kailagh wanted all of her sisters to wear peach, but we couldn’t all find the right color. Thankfully, when your sister-in-law is the photographer, you get one… ONE… retouched image that represents your vision for your “sisters in peach” photo exactly the way you pictured it in your head 😉

Kailagh had the DJ invite ALL fathers and daughters to the dance floor after the first chorus of “My Girl.” It was so sweet!

Of course Brian had to join the father-daughter dance with Avonlea. Look at that peanut! He was/ is so proud of her.

rustic wedding at the ivy place | chris + kelsey

Chris and Kelsey’s rustic wedding took place at The Ivy Place in South Carolina! Theirs was our first wedding at this venue and we had a ball shooting here. This rustic farmhouse has so many beautiful photo opportunities: fields, gardens, old barns… it’s a truly beautiful location! Kelsey and Chris’s large, fun-loving wedding party were a blast to work with, and their families were genuinely happy for the newlyweds as they embarked on this new journey. Kelsey did an immaculate job planning every detail of this wedding! Everywhere we looked, she had props, color-coordinated accessories and rustic antiques arranged to perfection. This wedding was a joy to capture… Enjoy a few of our favorites from Chris and Kelsey’s wedding!
